Eating Disorder Program

What insurances do you accept?

We are currently in-network with Aetna commercial plans.

We are in the process of getting credentialed with United Health Care, Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Sheild, Cigna, and Humana.  We are expecting to be in-network with United Health Care in the early summer and the rest in the late summer/early fall.  Please contact us if you’d like to be notified when we are in-network with your insurance.

While we are in-network with Aetna, it does not guarantee that you will have benefits for our services.  We strongly recommend that you contact your insurance to find out what insurance will or will not cover.

You are responsible for the full payment of your session if insurance decides for any reason to not pay for the appointment.

What are the advantages of getting care for my eating disorder here vs somewhere else?

We’re glad you’re asking this question!  Dealing with an eating disorder is stressful and it’s important that you find the right provider for you.

Most dietitians have little to no training in eating disorders. When you see a dietitian at a facility that doesn’t specialize in eating disorders, you might end up seeing someone with no training or experience, resulting in care that is ineffective and feels triggering.

Auvia has specialized training in eating disorders, keeps up with the latest continuing education in the field, and has hundreds of hours of hands-on experience. Advantages of seeing Auvia include:

  • longer sessions for more in-depth care
  • ability to contact Auvia between sessions
  • nutrition counseling informed by evidenced-based behavior change modalities
  • more individualized attention as Auvia only takes on a limited number of clients
  • the ability to address co-occurring gut health concerns with non-restrictive approaches

Do you provide virtual sessions?
Yep! Sessions can be done either in-person or virtually. We’re licensed in Missouri and can see anyone located in Missouri.  We can also see clients from a handful of other states that have flexible licensure laws. If you’re outside Missouri, feel free to send a message with your state and we’ll check if we can see you.
Do you offer evening appointments?

Indeed we do! We think everyone should have access to the care they need, even if they have work or school during the day.

Am I going to be judged for my eating habits?

NO. For so many reasons, no.

Aside from being totally self-righteous and rude, that type of attitude just doesn’t lead to genuine, healthy change. Expect a judgement-free zone and compassionate understanding when you walk through the door.

Are you going to put me on some kind of diet?

Unless you have a medical condition, no. We find that in most cases, diets actually have a reverse effect of making you stress about food more. Which perpetuates the cycle of unhealthy eating choices.

If you do have a diet-related medical condition, we’ll absolutely work with you to find the least restrictive way to manage it. We want you to meet YOUR goals for YOUR body!

Are you going to saddle me with a bunch of challenges I can't do?

No. We’re all about baby steps and mini-goals. We believe wholeheartedly in a process of “gentle nutrition.”

I've tried so many things already. Why will this work?

We know recovery can be a disheartening process, and at times even feel impossible. It’s not always linear and smooth.

But while we can’t comment on any one form of treatment specifically that you may have tried, we do know that one-size-fits-all programs often don’t work. You’re a unique individual, so your treatment should be unique.

Gut Health & IBS Program

What insurances do you accept?

We are currently in-network with Aetna commercial plans.

I’ve tried so many things already. Why will this work?

We get it – when you’ve tried so many things, it’s normal to question whether the next thing will work.

Most IBS programs fail to give long-term relief because they only focus on elimination diets or killing off “bad gut bugs” and don’t focus on restoring the entire digestive process.  Elimination diets only mask the symptoms (giving you short-term relief), while causing further imbalances in the gut (leaving you feeling worse long-term).

That’s why this program focuses on getting to the root of your digestive issues and restoring digestive function from the mouth all the way through the digestive system.  We address your gut issues holistically using food, lifestyle, and supplements to create lasting change.  Our process is to find out what’s going wrong in your gut, why it’s going wrong, and give you the tools to fix it.

For every recommendation we give you, we’ll also explain why we’re making the recommendation so you can feel confident and empowered throughout the whole process.

Does this process involve supplements and tests?

For many clients, it does. But don’t worry—we’ll be able to pinpoint what you need (as well as what you don’t need). So you’re not just guessing or going off the recommendation of a friend.

Will this overwhelm my budget?

Nope! Some recommended treatment plans are a minimal cost, while others can be higher. But we can adjust your plan to work within your budget and still get you results.

How long does a course of treatment typically take?

This can vary according to the needs of each individual person. But a range of 4-8 monthly appointments is going to fit most people.

If you need to address a co-occurring eating disorder, your recommended treatment plan will most likely be more extensive.
